The Ridley Lecture

  • that the Ridley Lecture be established, to be held at the OAS Symposium;
  • that the lecture be held during the day’s programme, or the evening’s events, to be decided upon by the Symposium organizing committee;
  • if held during the day the time allocated would be equivalent to two papers (40 minutes);
  • this is to be a prestigious lecture, a highlight, or keynote lecture of the Symposium;
  • the speaker can be a professional or amateur, Ontario or non-Ontario archaeologists, but special emphasis will be made to have the lecturer discuss themes relevant to Ontario;
  • it is hoped that the paper will be of publishable quality and will be submitted immediately for consideration in the society publications;
  • the speaker will be selected by the Symposium committee in consultation with the Executive committee of the OAS;
  • the Executive Committee must approve the speaker;
  • there does not have to be a Ridley lecture at every Symposium;
  • the OAS can offer to assist with some of the expenses of the speaker, but cannot guarantee to cover all;
  • the speaker will receive an honorarium.
