The OAS Student Paper Award


The OAS Student Paper Award will be awarded to:

  • A student currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program at a post-secondary institution presenting an oral paper at the OAS Symposium.

Student Paper Award Committee:

  • The recipient of the student paper award will be decided by a committee of three individuals, and headed by the current Director of Student Services.  In the circumstance that the Director of Student Services is a candidate for the award themselves it is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to find a suitable replacement.   The committee will be formed in advance of the symposium.
  • At least one member of the Student Paper Award committee must be present during the presentation of papers that are potential recipients of the award.   Two or more committee members are preferable.
  • A duplicate copy of the text of the presentation must be provided to the Director of Student Services at the Symposium to assist in evaluation.

The criteria for a winning paper are:

  • Makes a solid contribution to the study or promotion of archaeology
  • Originality of idea
  • Scholastic merit
  • Clarity of presentation

The award will be presented before the conclusion of the OAS Symposium and will consist of:

  • A certificate from the OAS signed by the Board of Directors
  • Potential for the publication of the winning paper in an OAS publication
  • A one-year membership in the Ontario Archaeological Society
  • A gift from the Board of Directors
