The OAS Student Poster Award


The OAS Student Poster Award will be awarded to:

  • A student currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program at a post-secondary institution presenting a poster at the OAS Symposium. 

Student Awards Committee:

  • The recipient of the Student Poster Award will be decided by a committee of three individuals, and headed by the current Director of Student Services.  In the circumstance that the Director of Student Services is a candidate for the award themselves it is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to find a suitable replacement.   The committee will be formed in advance of the symposium. 
  • At least one member of the Student Awards committee must be present during the poster session to discuss the poster with potential recipients of the award.   Two or more committee members are preferable. 
  • A duplicate copy of the text of the presentation must be provided to the Director of Student Services at the Symposium to assist in evaluation.   A photograph or photographs of the poster taken by the awards committee or the student is also acceptable. 
  • If it is deemed that no student poster qualifies for the award in a given year it will not be awarded

The criteria for a winning poster are:

  • Makes a solid contribution to the study or promotion of archaeology
  • Originality of idea
  • Scholastic merit
  • Clarity of presentation

The award will be presented before the conclusion of the OAS Symposium and will consist of:

  • A certificate from the OAS signed by the Board of Directors
  • Potential for the publication of a summary of the poster content in an OAS publication
  • A one-year membership in the Ontario Archaeological Society
  • A gift from the Board of Directors
