Archaeological and social theory, the political economy of agrarian states, settlement pattern analysis, regional and multiregional scales of analysis, and boundary processes, complex societies of Mexico, especially the southern highlands (Oaxaca)

East Mediterranean prehistory, the Aegean, Anatolia and northern Mesopotamia, Epi-Palaeolithic to Late Bronze Age, stone tools, production and consumption (raw material characterisation studies, lithic technology and use-wear)
